 FAQ

An Arizona Certified Legal Document Preparer (CLDP) is a non-attorney legal service provider, certified by the Arizona Supreme Court to provide document preparation assistance and services to individuals and entities not represented by an attorney. Legal Document Preparers may provide general legal information, but may not give legal advice.

To become a CLDP, an individual must possess the required educational or experience qualifications, pass an exam, and undergo a background check to ensure they meet strict ethical and professional standards. Additionally, they must complete a minimum of 10 hours of continuing legal education each year, with at least one hour dedicated to ethics.

A Certified Legal Document Preparer can prepare and provide legal documents without attorney supervision, but cannot offer legal advice or represent you in court. An attorney can give legal advice and represent you in court, while a paralegal must work under the supervision of an attorney.

You can use a Legal Document Preparer if you’re representing yourself and primarily need help preparing and filing forms and documents correctly. We cannot give legal advice or represent you in court.  Instead, we focus on preparing accurate documents based on the information you provide saving you time, stress, and often hundreds or thousands in legal fees.

Consider an attorney if your situation involves: a contested case, complex assets or businesses, significant tax or immigration consequences, appeals, tight court deadlines, protective orders/domestic violence, or if you want strategy and legal advice.

We provide referrals to attorneys when a lawyer is the better fit. If you’re unsure, we’ll help you decide in a quick fit call.

We assist the public with various legal documents in the areas of mediation, family law, business formation, and estate planning. We cannot provide legal advice, but we can and do make sure your paperwork is complete, clear, and filed the right way.
